Wife accused of murdering elderly husband and cutting up his body arrested – as search continues for man’s head

THE wife of an elderly man, who was found dismembered, has been arrested in northern Italy on Monday. Local reports state that Mrs Kurti has now confessed to the killing. The accused is under arrest and has been placed under surveillance at a psychiatric hospital in the area. At the end of July, plastic bags containing body parts started to appear in the Adigetto river. A torso, arms and, finally, another leg followed. The victim’s head is yet to be discovered. The Prosecutor of Rovigo immediately opened an investigation for murder and concealment of a body. Forensic pathology was carried out to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the death. Police was able to identify Mr Kurti because of a tattoo on his leg, local reports say. Investigators of the Operational Department of the Provincial Command of Rovigo turned their attention to the family of the victim, from Badia Polesine, including his wife who was the last person to see him on July 24. The victim’s son told police on July 24 Mr Kurti had been voluntarily removed after an alleged fight with his wife days before his body parts were found. The son claimed his father had moved away from home. It was not until August 1 that the family officially declared Mr Kurti as missing. During their investigations, the Carabinieri discovered traces of blood in the couple’s home on via Ghirardini, which led the force to take in Mrs Kurti for questioning. Collaborating with police, the accused admitted to killing her husband inside their home before dismembering him in the bathroom and throwing the bin bags full of body parts in the Adigetto, a few hundred metres from their home. Investigators are reported to have found the tools used to commit the killing, and dismemberment, in the river. Local report said a circular saw may have been used to carry out the clean cuts. Mrs Kurti faces charges of aggravated voluntary murder and destruction and suppression of a corpse.
