VLADIMIR Putin’s army has been rocked by another series of attacks in occupied Crimea, including a large explosion at a military base. Last week, Putin’s Russian warplanes were destroyed by blasts at a Black Sea base on the Crimean coast. And today, massive explosions and fires hit a military depot in Russia-annexed Crimea today, forcing the evacuation of more than 3,000 people. The Russian defence ministry has described the explosion, which took place at a military base in Crimea’s Dzhankoy District as “an act of sabotage”. Russia earlier attributed the blast to “the detonation of ammunition” but did not give its cause. According to Interfax, Russia’s defence ministry said: “In the morning of 16 August following an act of sabotage a military storage facility was damaged in the vicinity of the residential area Dzhankoy.” It added how “a number of civilian facilities, including electricity transmission lines, railway and a number of private houses” were damaged but no one was severely injured. Sergei Aksyonov, Russia’s puppet Crimean leader, said that two civilians had been injured in the explosion. Read our Ukraine-Russia blog below for the latest updates…
