Ukraine news latest: Putin’s temporary war truce rejected by Ukraine as forces exchange artillery fire with Russia

UKRAINE rejected Vladimir Putin’s 36-hour war truce from midday on Friday to observe Russian Orthodox Christmas. Shells were fired at the front line near Kreminna in eastern Ukraine as one soldier was heard saying: “What ceasefire? Can you hear? “What do they want to achieve if they keep on shooting? We know, we have learnt not to trust them.” Russia’s defence ministry said that its troops started observing a ceasefire from noon Moscow time, however, Ukraine shelled populated areas and military positions. Reuters reported that explosions were heard at the front line, which Ukrainian troops said to be “incoming Russian rocket fire,” and added that Ukraine fired back from tanks.
