Ukraine news latest: ‘Putin’s brutality’ leaves 7,000 civilians dead but UN claims actual toll is ‘considerably higher’

VLADIMIR Putin’s brutal war has caused the deaths of over 7,000 civilians since Russia invaded Ukraine last February. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said on Monday that the actual death toll is “considerably higher”. They added: “Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and airstrikes.” It comes as Ben Wallace confirmed plans on the House of Commons that the UK will send a squadron of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. Mr Wallace told MPs: “I can announce the most significant package of combat power to date to accelerate Ukrainian success.
