VLADIMIR Putin is “expanding Russia’s nuclear arsenal” as war rages on in Ukraine, a top US official has claimed. Speaking on Friday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned the Kremlin is expanding its nuclear capabilities as Russia continues its brutal war in Ukraine. “Russia is also modernising and expanding its nuclear arsenal. And as the Kremlin continues its cruel and unprovoked war of choice against Ukraine, the whole world has seen Putin engage in deeply irresponsible nuclear sabre-rattling,” Mr Austin said. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has warned that war between the West and Russia could break out as a result of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. “If things go wrong, they can go horribly wrong,” he said. “It is a terrible war in Ukraine.
