Haqqani is also head of the militant Haqqani network, a group blamed for indiscriminate bombings and attacks which have killed hundreds of people. Before the Taliban took power in August last year, he was the most senior deputy to leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. Akhundzada hasn’t been seen in public for years and some analysts believe he may not be alive.
