The lion feasting on the carcass after a bloody takedown was caught on camera by Australian photographer Leigh Lofgren as she travelled through the Serengeti, Kenya. Former Good Morning Britain director Leigh, who now lives in the U.S., spotted the circle of life moment as two lions feasted on the animal. Mrs Lofgren, 61, said: “I did know that most kills are done by the females with the males and others coming in to eat when called and when over. “Until the male arrives at a kill, the female can only go in through the stomach or through the backside which is more often the case. “The male has the claws that can rip open an animal along the back and I found that staggering, as it makes you wonder just how powerful those claws are in that sense. “I was shocked as I had never seen anything like this – in all our previous trips to Africa, had never seen them inside a dead animal in this way. It is life in the wild and it is without a doubt, humbling, exciting and rewarding.” WILD BEASTS It comes as shocking pictures of a baby monkey clinging was onto its dead mum as her lifeless body hung from a lion’s mouth were revealed Photographer and safari guide Hendri Venter, 60, captured the brutal moment at South Africa’s Zimanga Private Game Reserve. “As a safari guide, I’ve seen many cruel wildlife encounters, but this tops them all by far,” Hendri said. “Nature – as wonderful and incredible as it can be – can also be frightful, even bordering on atrocious but this is the reality of it. “Life and death play out in all of our lives.
