New Zealand earthquake – Huge 6.1 magnitude tremor rocks Wellington as nation recovers from cyclone

A HUGE 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand today. The quake was centred around its capital Wellington on the north island shortly after 7.30pm local time. GeoNetThe earthquake hit on Wednesday evening[/caption] GeoNet classed the quake as “strong” after it struck with a jolt. It was followed by 30 seconds of moderate shaking.  A resident told the New Zealand Herald the quake had more of a rolling sensation. Other Kiwis described the quake as “massive” and “scary”.
