A MYSTERY mass poisoning has left 57 students in hospital after they were reportedly exposed to a contaminated substance. Pupils at the rural secondary school in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas were struck down by the strange sickness on Friday. The Mexican Social Security Institute said 57 students had arrived at a local hospital in the community of Bochil displaying symptoms of poisoning.  One teen in a “delicate” condition was transferred to a hospital in the state’s capital while the rest were stable, they said. It is the third such incident at a Chiapas school in just two weeks, sparking outrage among concerned locals. Officials in Bochil said they were “outraged by these events” and were cooperating with an investigation launched by the state prosecutor. Toxicology exams were conducted on 15 students which each returned a negative result for any illicit drugs. It comes amid rumours some pupils had tested positive for cocaine. One distressed dad claimed his daughter had been “poisoned” and had tested positive for the illegal substance at a private laboratory. He said other students had also received the same test results.
