A badly decomposed body found in an isolated creek in Sydney’s south-west is believed to be that of teenager Merna Kasha, who vanished on 28 April. Merna, 18, disappeared after a family member dropped her off on Kihilla St in the Sydney suburb of Fairfield Heights last month. The case is mired in a mystery as it has now been revealed that Merna had been in contact with her family a few days after vanishing from Kihilla St. She has not been seen or heard from since. Just last week, police made a new appeal for information regarding Merna’s whereabouts. Wellwishers have inundated the NSW Police Facebook page with messages of support for Merna’s family. In their appeal for public assistance, police said Merna would regularly use public transport and was known to socialise around the Fairfield Heights and Liverpool areas. Kasha is described as being of Middle Eastern-Mediterranean appearance, about 160 centimetres tall, slim build, with dark brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. The teenager has a tattoo along the middle of her back, and piercings in her lip, nose, and cheek. Forensic examinations are currently underway in the muddy creek to determine the identity and the cause of death, and police established a crime scene. Merna’s family has been notified. NSW Police are yet to confirm whether they are treating the death as suspicious. It is anticipated police will investigate how Merna came to be at the creek off Pitt St, Canley Heights. The region has seen significant rainfall in the past few weeks and police divers were dispatched to scour the creek bed. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
