Moment hero bystanders save woman under attack from thug, 52, who ‘tried to drown her’ in public fountain

THIS is the shocking moment a man who tried to drown a woman in a public fountain was beaten senseless by rescuers. The 52-year-old man – now facing attempted murder charges – had been cooling off in the water with the woman on August 9. Local media reported that he thought his acquaintance was in on the theft and tried to drown her in the fountain. Phone footage of the drama shows the shirtless thug – who appears to be drunk – holding the woman by her hair, forcing her head down to the water. One person can be heard shouting: “He’s going to kill her.” As the crowd pleads with him to let her go, he hangs on tight until one man in a red top jumps in and gets him in a stranglehold. Now free, the woman – wearing only her underwear – staggers back to dry land. Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes and took the injured pair to hospital. The thug was treated for a cut eyebrow and cheekbone, while his victim was treated for blows received during the struggle.
