Melting Glaciers Are Releasing Tonnes of Bacteria Into Rivers and Streams, Study Reveals

Potentially harmful pathogens and other thousands of microbes could leak into rivers and lakes as the glaciers melt from human-caused climate change. As the bacteria and algae melt off of the glacier’s surface an average of 650,000 tonnes of carbon could be released into the northern hemisphere per year.
