I’m a McDonald’s lover & I’ve eaten a Big Mac almost every day for 50 years – there’s really nothing else I’d rather eat

A MAN who loves McDonald’s Big Macs so much he has eaten one almost every day for the past 50 years. Donald Gorske, 68, has made it into the Guinness World Records  – and naturally he celebrated his achievement by heading down to his local fast food outlet in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In August last year, Gorske updated his own record for the most Big Mac burgers eaten in a lifetime with an official total of 32,340. Now, Gorske marked his 50th anniversary of eating the iconic burger on May 17 and has only missed out on savouring the “best sandwich in the world” in eight days since 1972. Once was in 1982 when his local McDonald’s was shut during a snowstorm and another was on the day his mum died as a mark of respect. He told the Guinness World Records: “I drove straight to McDonald’s, got my first three Big Macs, then got in the car and ate them. “In that moment I said ‘I’m going to probably eat these for the rest of my life’.” Gorske is so highly regarded by staff at his local McDonald’s they have put up a portrait of him on the wall. He told WBAY: “They’re that good to me – there’s really nothing else I’d rather eat.” Gorske first entered the record books for the most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime in 1999 with 15,490 consumed and he has doubled that since then. He keeps meticulous details of all the burgers he’s eaten, keeping each individual burger carton and receipt. Gorske, who is married to Mary, also has a display case containing burger cartons from different time periods, charting the design changes over the years. He has tried other burgers over the years but for Gorske none has ever been able to match the taste of a Big Mac. He said: “I had one Burger King Whopper in 1984 and one Topper double burger in 1984. There are a lot of other burger chains that I have never had the desire to try.” “I’ll probably be eating Big Macs every day for the rest of my life.” While he says his favourite branch is his local McDonald’s he says he has eaten Big Macs in all 50 US states as well as Canada. Friends and family have even brought burgers from other countries for him, which he has also eaten. Gorske also appeared in Morgan Spurlock’s 2004 documentary Super Size Me as a “Big Mac expert”. While Spurlock’s health declined during the experiment, this didn’t put off Gorske from eating Big Macs. While the burger contains around 550 calories, Gorske claimed his blood pressure and cholesterol are normal. He said: “I’m blessed with a high metabolism and good health which allow me to eat Big Macs without gaining a lot of weight. “I might be the only person alive who could eat Big Macs every day without ill effects for 50 years.” Gorske intends on eating Big Macs until he dies. “If I go for 40,000, that’ll take me another 14 years or whatever like that,” he said in 2018.
