A FEMALE carpenter has sent pulses racing with her choice of skimpy outfits in the workshop. The influencer, who goes by HardWoodBunny, has more than 17,000 fans on YouTube, where she posts clips of her day-to-day life as a chippy. Carpentry is traditionally a male-dominated profession, but young women are beginning to make their mark. The talented woodworker often shares snippets of her days inside her studio chopping wood and coming up with her creations. And many fans were impressed by her skills and physique – with some asking for her to be their carpentry teacher. One said: “You are a great attention to detail craftsman!!” Another wrote: “She can be my woodshop teacher any day.” A third described her as the “goddess of wood”. A fourth commented: “Always good to see a pro knowing what to do.” But others pointed out the serious health and safety risks of wearing skimpy outfits while operating heavy machinery. One person commented: “This is the exact opposite of safety standards…” Another wrote: “No safety glasses, no hard wearing clothes, loose hair and dangling jewellery. “That’s just an accident waiting to happen.” A third said: “I’m slightly concerned about health and safety protocols!! Please use ear and eye protection.” Some warned it was “unprofessional and dangerous” to be dressed in shorts and a crop top while working with tools. But the carpenter hit back at trolls who said she “return to modelling”. “I literally have a full time woodworking business,” she replied. She added: “I own Stain and Ink and have built everything on there.” Another female carpenter is hitting back at outdated expectations of women in the workplace with a rocking sense of humour. Jess Bessell is breaking new ground as a carpenter and sharing her life and work on her TikTok platform. Jess loves her work but is less keen on the old-fashioned questions she has to endure at her workplace. No shrinking violet, she tackles them with humour in her TikTok posts. She captioned her latest video with: “Some of the questions I get asked.” First up is: “What made you get into this then luv?” Followed by the all-time classic: “Do you have a boyfriend?” And finally, another banger: “Does your boyfriend mind you working with all those men?” Comments to her post were both empathetic and impressed by the chutzpah of this young chippie.
