Horrifying CCTV shows gang of men drag two women into street and beat them up after one spurned sex pest’s advances

THE SHOCKING footage of a savage attack by several thugs on three women after one of them rejected their advances has unleashed a flood of outrage on Chinese social media. In the graphic CCTV footage, a man can be seen entering a barbecue restaurant in Tangshan in the northeast of Hebei province on 6 June, when he spots a woman sharing a meal with two friends near the doorway. He then walks back and almost immediately places his hand on her back before she takes hold of his wrist to push him away. The woman, in a white top, can be seen talking to the man for only a few seconds before he tries to embrace her when she pushed him back again. The man responds by violently striking her in the face. The man then turns his attention to the friend and aggressively pushes her – by the neck. The lady falls on a chair, then to the ground where she is kicked and hit by the man’s friend after he joined in the violent assault. As the second woman is being beaten on the floor, the third woman stands over her to protect her with her body, as the man slams a chair on her back. The man notices the first victim standing near him and grabs her by the hair, punches her in the face before the woman is dragged out of the eatery, and two more men get involved in the brutal onslaught. Outside, the men continue to land blows on the first woman, as she is beaten on the floor. Another woman’s head smashes the concrete pavement. Moments later, the men are seen walking away from the scene. Nine people have been arrested following the vicious attack by the group of men, on suspicion of violent assault and “provoking trouble”, police in Tangshan city said. An investigation is underway, the local Public Security Bureau said in a Weibo post. The footage has quickly become viral on China‘s Weibo social media platform, in a country where gender-based violence and domestic abuse remain commonplace. Millions of users have commented on the video, urging the authorities to crack down on sexual harassment. The flood of outrage on Chinese social media prompted state media calls for punishment and renewed a debate over rampant violence against women in the patriarchal country. In a comment, state media demanded the suspects be severely punished.
