New Zealand’s mountain ranges and rivers had provided a seemingly perfect setting for Amazon's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, filmed in 1999-2000. For its prequel, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, set before the events described in JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the show returned to New Zealand.
