The roof of the bus was torn off as it tumbled into the ditch, leaving the tourists luggage strewn across the scene. Mexicans often pool their resources to rent transport with friends and family to head on a mini-break. All those on board were from the city of Leon in the state of Guanajuato, police said. Of the surviving passengers, 45 remain in hospital receiving treatment. Investigators are now working to establish the cause of the crash. Tragedies with similar circumstances have typically occurred due to bad weather, poorly maintained vehicles, substandard highways or speeding.
