Five teenagers killed and man, 18, survives after car smashes into tree ‘at speed’ in Australia

FIVE teenagers have been killed after a car travelling “at speed” smashed into a tree in Australia. The driver of a Nissan Navarro, an 18-year-old, was the sole survivor of the horror crash in south west Sydney at around 7.50pm on Tuesday. 9NewsSuperintendent Paul Fuller said it was one of the worst accident scenes he’d seen in 38 years[/caption] 9NewsIt’s thought some of the victims could be as young as 14 or 15 years old[/caption] Reports say the teenager has been arrested but not charged. Three women and two men inside the car were killed when the vehicle hit a tree on East Parade at Buxton, near Picton. Police believe some of those killed could have been as young as 14 or 15 and went to school locally. Shocking pictures show the Nissan torn to shreds in the crash. The driver was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for tests. A report will be prepared for the coroner. Local councillor Michael Banasik called it a “terrible tragedy”. “It’s devastating for Buxton and the general community, you know, it’s just horrible,” he told 9 News. “Buxton’s a great place, small, small town and yeah, this is a terrible tragedy, no matter where it’s happened.”
