CAPTURED Brit fighter Aiden Aslin has launched a desperate appeal against his death sentence in Putin’s rogue Ukrainian state. The so-called Donetsk People’s Republic confirmed it received Aslin’s appeal on Monday. Captured British fighter Aiden Aslin has launched a legal appeal against his death sentence “Today, July 4, a cassation appeal was filed with the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court by the lawyer of the third convict, Aiden Aslin, regarding the change in the punishment,” a representative of the Supreme Court told Russian outlet RIA Novosti. It comes as Ukraine said it was ready to swap Russian prisoners of war to secure the release of hero fighters Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner. The Britons – both serving members of Ukraine’s army – were sentenced to death by a kangaroo court after reportedly being tricked to admit they are terrorists. Expats Aiden, 28, and Shaun, 48, were captured after running out of ammo during the brutal siege of Mariupol. Ukraine says they were soldiers who should be protected as prisoners of war under international law. And last month the country’s ambassador to the UK, Vadym Prystaiko, suggested they will be freed in a prisoner swap deal with Russia. In return Putin could demand the release of a number of pro-Kremlin Ukrainian politicians who have been detained for alleged spying. Meanwhile, another Brit stopped at a Russian checkpoint as he tried to help a Ukrainian family to safety is facing the death penalty on “bogus” charges, it is said.
